Hyundai Card Gourmet Week - Bowtie de Butler

American style dining at Bowtie de Butler

Bowtie de Butler

Hyundai Card selects a handful of fine restaurants in Seoul and Busan to run a promotional event twice a year for its users to dine at discounted prices. I am a big fan of the events they organize and gourmet week is something that I look forward to each year. (I recommend their app 'My Menu', as well by the way)

As the name of the event suggests, it runs for one week (23rd - 29th of May 2014).
I guess there will be another one in the second half of the year.

I made reservation for 6:30 on a Saturday evening and I think it was bit early so there weren't that many people. The restaurant itself isn't that huge and probably holds around a dozen of tables. There is a cute cocktail bar at the entrance if you'd like a drink before the meal.

Once sat, I didn't mind the decor and the chairs were comfy but then I am probably not the best person to comment on that. The lighting levels were just about right and I can't remember any background music apart from distance chatter from the table next.

Citrus Octopus

Greek Salad

We started with octopus and lamb meatballs. I liked the lamb meatballs with mint source very much. There's another layer of source inside the meatballs as well. Yum!

Genie Burger

Great Gumbo

For the main dish, I went for more dishes that sounded more American as the place is meant to be New York style dining. It's called Genie Burger for a reason as it comes with a dash of smoke trapped inside a transparent lid. The apple tree smoke infusion adds hints of smoky flavor to the dish. But out of the two, I liked the Great Gumbo better, a quick search on google revealed that it's originally a New Orleans recipe.

It's worth a visit and here is the link.

RELIVE ULTRA KOREA 2013 (Official Aftermovie)

UMF Korea

UMF returns this year from 2014.06.13 ~ 14

Ultra Music Festival Korea has been running for 3 consecutive years now. It was a great success last year and I expect that they will put on a great show this year as well.

It seems that only 2 day admission tickets are available this year. (Last year, one day passes were available)

I recognize fewer names from the line-up though, I think I heard some say it's slightly disappointing this year.
Nevertheless, the likes of Steve Aoki and Paul van Dyk are probably good enough reason for me to go.

Exciting!

City of Seoul (my first blog entry)

Overlooking Seoul City Hall

This is my first blog entry. I hope this is the first of many interesting blogs to come in the future. Having been living in Seoul for past 6 years as an expat, I hope to share my experiences of the city with an objective of being a good reference to those coming to live or visit Seoul.

The blog will cover many aspects of the city from dining hot spots to daily life sights with an occasional suburban trips out to many mountains and seasides the country has to offer.

After so many years in the city, I am still finding new faces of my city, which is a nice surprise and an adventure for me. I believe the city has some unique offerings with a good mixture of old and the new, rarely in harmony but somehow in coexistence.

Old and New : Deoksu Palace in City Center

Above pictures are taken from The Plaza, situated right in front of city hall and walking distance from many attractions in the northern part of the city. (Insa-dong & Samchung-dong)

Junior suites in the corner gives you a better view of the city. Check out promotions and special package offers before making a reservation.

Deoksu Palace - changing guard ceremony

The royal guard changing ceremony is interesting enough to check out. I am not normally a fan of these ceremonies but you can come and go as you please. Make sure you check out the ceremony times (3 times a day). There is also a modern arts gallery inside the palace that is definitely worth your time as well.
